De Creatieve Coalitie has been working hard in recent months to make our voices heard against the planned VAT increase by the government.

– In our newsletter, you could read briefly about the action ‘receipt for society,’ which involved collaboration with sports, events, media, books, and accommodations against the VAT increase plans. A 20-meter long banner was rolled out, showing everyone the financial consequences of the VAT increase. You could view the receipt at the Esher Museum and the Huis van het Boek in Den Haag during prinsjesdag on 17 september 2024. The collaboration was with the KNVB, NOC*NSF, Koninklijke Horeca Nederland, Kunsten ’92, De Creatieve Coalitie, CPNB, NDP Nieuwsmedia, Platform Ondernemende Sportaanbieders and Vereniging van Evenementenmakers VVEM.

– De Creatieve Coalitie provided an update: ‘On the night of October 8 to 9, a significant success was achieved against the VAT increase on culture, books, media, and sports, among others. A large majority in the Senate voted in favor of a motion from D66 to remove the VAT increase from the Tax Plan. This means that the government has been called upon by the Senate to address the VAT increase in a separate law. If the government acts on this adopted motion, the likelihood increases that the VAT increase will not proceed in time, or may not happen at all. Various interest organizations, including De Creatieve Coalitie and all affiliated member organizations, previously called on the senators in the Senate in an open letter to treat the VAT increase in a separate legislative proposal.’

Other news from De Creatieve Coalitie: – De Creatieve Coalitie has been invited by the Minister of Social Affairs and Employment, Eddy van Hijum, to discuss the effect of the government’s plans on the income of self-employed individuals, following the position paper we sent out earlier. But we need your help for that conversation: what will be the impact of the VAT increase? How will the law against false self-employment affect self-employed individuals? What measures are you most concerned about? Please fill out the short survey (it only takes one minute) and let us know what you think we should discuss with the minister.

– Can more qualified subject teachers in the arts be deployed in primary education? If so, how can this happen? The labor platform PO is investigating what schools need to deploy subject teachers and what the wishes of the arts teachers themselves are, both qualified and unqualified. They focus on visual arts (such as drawing, crafts, design, graphics), theater (drama), dance, music, and audio/visual (such as film, photography, and sound). Read more here!
