About Platform BK
Platform BK is an association of artists, designers, curators, writers, and producers working in the visual arts. Platform BK investigates the role of art in society and campaigns for a better art policy. We work for a better appreciation of the visual arts and a stronger position for everyone working within the field. Platform BK’s mission is to promote solidarity within and with the arts. We do this by researching current themes relevant to the arts field and putting them on the agenda of art institutions, politicians, and the media. Thanks to our direct relationship with the arts field and a growing membership, we know what is happening and can take an independent position within the sector. As an active think tank, Platform BK is a catalyst for essential developments in the arts field and a link between interest groups and politics, in the media and society, independent of establishment or economic interests.

Profile of Platform BK’s Board
The board of Platform BK governs at a distance with a high level of engagement. It consists of at least five and at most seven members. The board supports, advises, and collaborates with a small core team of two co-directors. The board aims to include members with knowledge, experience, and affinity with Platform BK’s objectives.

As a whole, the board possesses expertise in the following areas: contemporary visual arts; cultural policy; administrative and political relations; governance experience in the cultural sector; financial-economic expertise; legal expertise; fundraising and communication. The board strives for a balanced composition in terms of age, gender, nationality, regional distribution, experience, and cultural background of its members. It must be able to carry out its legally assigned duties, as well as those arising from the Cultural Governance Code, the Fair Practice Code, the Code Diversity & Inclusion and other regulations, in a responsible manner. The board also follows a rotation schedule.

Profile Secretary (M/F/X)
The secretary is a member of the board and supports it in achieving the association’s goals through organizational and practical tasks. This includes preparing and taking minutes of meetings, co-preparing the annual General Members Meeting, and organizing the association’s statutory obligations. In addition, the secretary provides solicited and unsolicited advice and feedback to the directors to strengthen the organization. Board members may, upon request and in consultation with the directors, be deployed as external advocates.

Our team consists of people with different backgrounds. Together we ensure that Platform BK knows what is going on and what is needed. The association considers the fight against racism, sexism and any other form of discrimination within the arts field as part of our core mission towards a fair practice and fair society for all art workers – and by extension, all humans and other living entities. Obviously, this applies also to our internal procedures and practices. Anyone who thinks they can contribute to this is invited to respond.
